Objectives

At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain :
- the use and the application of conservation equations describing multiphase systems.
- the multiscale approach  for process engineering in three steps:
1- integrating knowledge  from local entities (inclusion, pore, interface) into the multiphase process.
2- developing closure relations from isolated object to dense media with interactions.
3- evaluating extrapolation/interpolation effects due to scaling up and down - in time and space (heterogeneity, one way/two way or no coupling problems).
 
The student will be able to ;
- choose the right scale to describe the multiphase process and the appropriate tool to solve the M&Ms.
- incorporate phenomena and couple them consistent with the chosen scale
- simulate the multifunctional behaviour of M&Ms (project) and check for correct results using balance estimation

Form of assessment

The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
