Waste treatment and valorization

Objectives


At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain (main concepts):
- industrial pollution : environment, nature and scope of pollutant emissions, strategies for effluent
- the legal and usual definitions of wastes  in France. Waste  characterisation
- unit operations and processes commonly used in waste reduction, treatment and recovery (chemical, biochemical and thermal processes).
- the principles of risk assessment methods and treatment processes for polluted soils  
The student will be able to:
- identify basic legislation and policies for an environmental situation and apply them to a specific problem or propose an appropriate solution
- quantify the effects of industrial pollution on the environment (dispersion of pollutants, oxygen deficit ...)
-  determine the recovery potential for an industrial waste (liquid, solid or gas)
- select and design processes for waste treatment or recovery (liquid, solid or gas)
- understand the risk assessment report of a site

Physical, chemical, biological and mathematical fundamentals
Metrology, environment and risks

Form of assessment

The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
