Data Models and Information Systems :
At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain (main concepts) :
- How society influences the development and use of databases
- Data Model: Entity-relationship model or class diagram UML) and the hierarchical
model (XML)
- The relational model
- Translation language XSL
- Query languages: XQuery
- The cocoon framework
- Information Systems taxonomy (enterprise resource planning or ERP, customer/
extended relationship management CRM/XRM, product data management or PDMs,
- The best practices for Information Systems management based on ITIL (Information
Technology Infrastructure Library)
The student will be able to use these concepts and principles to effectively design
and implement an XML database:
- to design the entity-relationship model or database object
- to derive the hierarchical model of the previous model and vice versa (to
reverse engineer)
- to implement the database using the provided DBMS and implement the
necessary verification of constraints on data
- to perform translations of the data contained in the database using XSL
and verify their correctness
- to implement queries for the database using the XQuery language and verify their
- to create a prototype website using the cocoon framework
- to evaluate the overall result based on the initial requirements and suggest improvements.
The student will product a concept map of the studied areas: modelling, production,
processing, querying, integration.

Form of assessment

The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
