Mobiles Networks and Wireless Networks


At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain
(main concepts):
Mobile networks (2nd and 3rd generation, GSM to UMTS) and wireless local and
personal networks: operating principles, deployment and architecture.
The student will be able to:
- understand the cellular architecture of mobile and wireless networks
- design and deploy a mobile cellular network
- Understand network architectures, roaming and handover/paging principles
- Understand the radio interface and its impact on network architecture
- understand voice and image coding for wireless mobiles networks
- understand information transmission (voice, data, multimedia) in mobile and
wireless networks
- understand energy management and emitting power
in wireless and mobile networks
- identify the specifics of wireless local and personal networks and their effects on
the network protocols
- grasp the main operating principles of local and personal wireless networks
- design and deploy an enterprise local wireless network

Form of assessment

The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
