Reinforced and prestressed concrete
Presentation
Programme (detailed contents):
History, definition, principles of design, technology, examples, precast concrete. Experimental behaviour of a concrete beam till failure. Limit states. Actions and combinations of actions. Characteristics of material, concrete, steel and adherence. Determination at ULS and SLS of the reinforcements under axial load and bending moment according EC2.
Verifications. Crack control.
Organisation:
Cours (37.5h) + TD (28.75) + TP (9h)
Provision of lecture notes and worksheets for self-evaluation
Main difficulties for students:
Calculation of axial internal forces and bending moments according beam theory. Design in 3D.
Objectives
At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain (main concepts):
The mechanical behaviour and the calculation of a reinforced or prestressed beam section, according to Eurocode 2, SLS and UL, under tension or compression loads, or bending moment.
The student will be able to:
Calculate the beam sections, determine longitudinal and shear reinforcements or prestressing tendons, explain building steps, verify EC2 requirements.
Needed prerequisite
Strength of materials I3ICRM21
Building materials and concretes I3ICMX11
Form of assessment
The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
