Transformation processes for matter and energy


At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain (main concepts) :
- the principles of transformation processes for raw materials (oil, coal, gas,
ore, biomass), of organic and mineral "bulk" chemistry (refining, petrochemistry, NH3,
H2SO4, Na2CO3, NaOH, Cl2, fertilizers) and of energy production (thermal, nuclear,
- the principles of the diagrammatic representation of a process (flowsheet)
and associated graphics
- the principles of cost-estimation of a process
- the industrial sector
The student will be able to:
- describe a production system
- read, interpret and create an installation flowsheet
- to write global balances for a process in order to calculate matter and energy
- identify information flows
- do a critical analysis of a process
- estimate the cost of a process
- work independently from specifications
- find and analyse scientific documentation.

Form of assessment

The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
