Process Control


At the end of this module, the student will have understood and be able to explain (main concepts):
Dynamic modelling of processes and its approximation by simple transfer functions of 1st
or 2nd order, with or without time delay
Set-up of feedback control
The student will be able to: write mass or energy balances for transient
behaviour, to derive transfer functions from the linearisation of these balances or the
analysis of step, impulse or frequency responses, to design a feedback control-loop
with Pid controllers and study the closed-loop responses to changes (set-point or
disturbances) according to the values of the controller parameters and to study the
closed-loop stability.

Form of assessment

The evaluation of outcome prior learning is made as a continuous training during the semester. According ot the teaching, the assessment will be different: as a written exam, an oral exam, a record, a written report, peers review...
